Bass Play Alongs

Looking back at some play alongs that i did during the summer of 2020. Right in the middle of Lockdown. I chose these 3x track in particular because of how important they were to my growth as a bass player. 3x of my favourite bass players, and 3x of my favourite bass lines.

I wanted to start with this one as the Motown style was a huge part of me understanding what the bass could do with in band. Not only is it so integral to the rhythm and time, but also to the melody and harmony. Nobody showcased that more than James Jamerson who played on soo many Stevie Wonder records. However, this is one of my favourite Stevie Wonder tracks played by Nate Watts and my interpretation of it.

Secondly, i wanted to showcase this awesome bass line from Geddy Lee, who is one of the most powerful bass players of all time. In a 3x piece rock band he had such a presence and thunder on the bass. A big influence to me growing up.

Finally, Pino Paladino is another one of my favourite bass players, who mingles the melody and rhythm together beautifully. I listened to a lot of blues growing up especially the 3x piece British blues style and Pino's modern take on it is clean, funky and makes the whole track move.
